SOUNDPROOF CEILINGS
Sydney Metro Plastering can install Sound Proof Ceilings in your unit, apartment, house or business to reduce unwanted noises from neighboring properties. An acoustic rated ceiling upgrade is the most effective way of reducing the transference of unwanted noise from a unit above giving you a much more peaceful living experience. The process of sound proofing ceilings is described below.

Step 1 - Installation of multiple acoustic designed clips called "Resilient Mounts" which are specifically designed to reduce the transfer of vibration through to the new ceiling.
Step 2 - A new steel batten called a "furring channel" is then clipped into the sound proofing resilient mount clips. This will be used to screw the acoustic plasterboard to later
Step3 - Sound proofing acoustic rated insulation is then installed between all the furring channels. This will weaken the sound penetration significantly already before it meets the acoustic rated plasterboard.
Step 4 - Two layers of 10mm sound proofing acoustic rated plasterboard is then screwed and glued with all the joints between each layer staggered by at least 300mm to ensure minimal sound transference between layers.
Step 5 - Joints are then concealed and sanded leaving ready for the painting process to be done by the owner or independent contractor.

What will it cost? - The cost to install a an acoustic ceiling will vary slightly depending on the access to the work areas and the cornice selection. The average cost for a 2 bedroom unit will generally equate to approx $140+gst per square metre. Most 2 bedroom units unclusive of Kitchen and 1 Bathroom and Combined Living / Dining areas will likely cost between $8000 - $11,000 + GST to install a soundproof ceiling.
How much noise will it stop? - Generally most regular sounds including foot steps, talking and water drainage noises will become inaudible or at least greatly reduced when forced to travel through an acoustic barrier as described above. It is however important to be aware of how much noise may be transferred though the walls of the room(s) in question as this transfered noise will still be present unless an acoustic barrier is also applied to the walls.
